Thank you to Foundation 65 for sponsoring Mr. Neri's visit and to the Chute PTA for providing classroom copies of his books for our students.
Chute had a wonderful visit with author G. Neri on October 21st. Mr. Neri presented to all Chute 6th, 7th and 8th graders. In addition Mr. Neri had lunch with Ms. Temkin's advanced drama 8th graders who are adapting one of his books, Chess Rumble, into a play. Chute's media arts teacher, Ms. Kushner, led Mr. Neri on a tour of games students created based on his work.
Mr. Neri is the Coretta Scott King honor-winning author of Yummy: the Last Days of a Southside Shorty and the recipient of the Lee Bennett Hopkins Promising Poet Award for his free verse novella, Chess Rumble. His novels include Knockout Games, Hello, I'm Johnny Cash and the Horace Mann Upstander Award-winning Ghetto Cowboy.
In addition, Chute advanced art 8th graders and 7th grade media arts students had an opportunity to Skype with the illustrator of Chess Rumble, Jesse Joshua Watson. Click on the below links to view the Skype sessions:
